Techniekboeken: DUURZAAM BOUWEN - Ambient Energy & Building Design

Aangeboden: DUURZAAM BOUWEN - Ambient Energy & Building Design Prijs: € 12,50

The practical use of ambient energy in buildings is becoming an increasingly relevant topic as the cost of energy from conventional sources rises.

This book provides a major review of recent developments in the harnessing of ambient energy, examines the many practical applications in buildings, discusses the lessons to be learned from important case studies and makes an assesment of possible future developments.

Space and water heating in buildings account for a substantial proportion of primary energy consumption and pressure to conserve fossil fuels has caused the need to consume such large quantities of energy for heating to be questioned. Measures to reduce the heat requirements of buildings have in consequence become matters of keen interest to all concemed with the design and performance of buildings or with energy supplies.

There are a number of distinct i f complementary, ways of reducing the fuel requirement of a building. In the first place, the building may be planned and constructed to make full use of the energy received by its envelope. Secondly, loss of heat through the fabric of the building can be reduced by the use of insulating materials. The heat requirement might be reduced further by the recovery of heat from air exhausted from the building. Ambient energy sources, which will provide a continuing supply of energy, can be used in place of fossil fuel to meet the heat requirement at least in part. In many of the more attractive proposals use is made of more than one source of energy. Combined use may be made, for example, of wind power and solar energy. With a heat pump solar energy can be used as a heat source. Ways of reducing the demand for fuel appear almost limitless in number and the range of alternatives available, including combinations, is bewildering.

The aim in this book is to r e view the principal possibilities regarded at the present time as practical. The practicability of an ambient energy scheme depends upon the availability of sufficient energy and the practicability upon the cost of the energy supplied. Proposals are considered in this light and specific experimental and design studies are reported. No review of the subject can be exhaustive but it is hoped that the informalion given and arguments presented will enable the reader to form a balanced view of the possibililies for energy savings in space and water healing in buildings.
